AI in Academic Support and Mentoring

Image
What do you know about AI? My understanding of AI:  AI stands for artificial intelligence and simply put, it is a program that is capable of performing tasks autonomously, without the intervention of humans, which can be achieved by a varied supporting technologies like machine learning algorithms, natural language processing, and neural networks to include a few. The only thing that is different in humans from what can be the best constructed AI is that humans can make decisions based on gut feeling, emotions, or out of their own will even if the information/facts say otherwise – while AI can make decisions only based on a lot of machine learning, statistical parameters, essentially data and its metadata. How can AI be helpful: I think AI can be used to perform tasks that are repetitive in nature, follow a specific pattern, and can be basically trained to be performed by a machine, when that task can be broken down into simpler operations and decisions. So, any task which can be train

15 year old me created a doodle, and here's the story behind

Image
Back in 2015, I participated in Google India's Doodle 4 Google annual student doodling competition, and designed a doodle with the theme "GeM Rice - Genetically Modified Rice that can grow in any terrain". The inspiration for this sparked from the film  1: Nenokkadine 's Golden Rice  which was penned by Jakka Hariprasad.  After a lot of planning and running out of time to actually draw and paint my doodle I failed to  attempt to design a doodle in the competition's 2014 edition. Hence, the next year, I was very determined to put forth my design this time, and squeezed all the free time I had to conceptualize the idea, according to the theme "If I could create something for India, it would be...".  I still remember the theme for 2014, which was, "A place in India I wish to visit", and being the dessert enthusiast, I had finalised Kolkata to be the place, with a design involving the Howrah Bridge, Gulab Jamun and Rasgulla (or as Bengalis love to

17 years of Gmail and something's gone now!

Image
Gmail was updated for all users in the month of June 2021, providing Google Workspace access to all its users, with better interfaces, and better integrations between Gmail and a lot of Google's apps like Calendar, Meet, Keep, Contacts and the newly launched Chat, which is a revamped and better version of Hangouts. But, interestingly, one thing that was always present in Gmail since its initial public launch in 2004, is kinda missing in 2021's Gmail. And that is the label text that says "Compose"  . Gmail interface as of its launch in 2004. The Compose button now has a pencil icon all the time, which just used to appear only when the mail sidebar was hidden to show only icons. The compose button is still there, but the text doesn't appear until one hovers on the pencil button which indicated the same action from Gmail smartphone apps. Gmail has also come a long way from its inception to what it is now. But this screenshot still is relavent and understandable to u

The importance of guidance and mentorship in cracking interviews

Interview is a one-to-one conversation regarding a topic, issue, situation, or generally to exchange and assess knowledge and talents. Cracking the corporate interview nowadays is a big task for graduates. The interview is the corporate companies’ go-to assessment besides knowledge and talent tests where the academics are put to the test. Acing any interview can be done after a lot of mental and psychological refining or, in simple words; a lot of mentorship is required. Preparing for an interview always comes handy in preparing for the forthcoming job, and develops one’s social and communication skills. The right guidance can land one in the best position one can hold, and it all starts with preparing for the interview. 21st century employers seek more smart working employees than hard working ones. They want to get the work done in the best way in the least possible time, also, honesty of the candidate is scrutinized by asking some hypothetical decision making questions. A lo
